SIX-year-old organ donation campaigner Dáithí Mac Gabhann was one of the headline winners at the 2023 Northern Ireland social Media Awards.

West Belfast boy Dáithí and his parents Máirtín and Seph received a standing ovation as they picked up the prestigious accolade for Best Social Media Campaign in Charity.

It followed their heartfelt campaigning and extensive social media activity which resulted in the landmark organ donation law which came into effect earlier this year.

Maírtín and Seph Ní Mhealláin had spent many months lobbying politicians to overhaul existing laws after Dáithí was given just a 10 per cent chance of survival at four-days-old due to a rare form of congenital heart disease.

And the judges describe the “Donate4Dáithí Campaign as “a shining example of social media’s transformative power in charitable initiatives.”

Dáithí really was the star of the show at the NI Social Media Awards, held in partnership with the Corner Bakery, which celebrate the best in social media marketing and the businesses, organisations and individuals who are creating inspiring content and using social media positively.

And one stage the youngster even staged an impromptu boxing match with performing gorillas at the social event of the year in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, attended by over 500 representatives from a host of industries including retail, hospitality, tourism, government, health and fitness.
