ERRIGAL Group has formally submitted a planning application as part of its proposed £150 million investment at an Antrim business park.

The Irish construction firm, which bought 70 acres of the former Enkalon site in 2019, has moved to the full planning phase, lodging its bid for a new 900,000sq ft warehouse with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

Errigal's plans, which also involve the redevelopment of existing warehouses and a rooftop solar farm, would see the completed park span a total of 1.7 million sq ft.

Subject to planning approval, the construction group, which is headquartered in Co Monaghan, close to the border with Tyrone, hopes to be on site for phase one of the build in early 2024.

Located adjacent to The Junction retail park, the southern section of the Enkalon business park is already occupied by companies such as Bath Shack, Sports Direct and Fastway.

Once completed and fully let, Errigal said the development has the potential to create more than 1,000 jobs. Around 200 jobs are expected to be involved in the construction phase.

Errigal Group's joint managing director, Cormac McCloskey, said the public response to its plans during the consultation phase had been overwhelmingly positive.

"Following this engagement with key stakeholders, our team has refined and finalised our planning submission and we’re excited to take this project through the next stage.”

His fellow managing director, Damien Treanor, added: “The redevelopment of the business park will breathe new life into the existing park and surrounding land and has the potential to create 1,000 jobs in the local community.

"The economic benefit of the project to the Antrim and Newtownabbey area and sub region will be considerable and we hope to be on site in early 2024.”
