TWO Derry publicans have launched a bid to establish a brand new hospitality venue in the city centre.

A planning application has been lodged to redevelop a number of vacant retail units at Castle Gate Buildings on Waterloo Street into a new bar.

The application has been lodged by Peggy Gordon’s Limited, a new company set up this year by publicans Sean McLaughlin and William Shiels.

The proposal seeks permission to transform three retail units at the historic building, just outside the city walls.

Subject to approval, it would involve the replacement of the shopfront on both Waterloo and High Street, with new windows installed.

Waterloo Street is already home to some of Derry’s best known pubs including The Dungloe Bar, Peadar O’Donnells and The Gweedore Bar.

The Dungloe Bar reopened in April following an extensive fire at the popular venue after Christmas.

The application for the new pub remains at an early stage in the planning process.
