A NEW £6.2 million shared housing development in Antrim will provide a mix of accommodation for families as well as for wheelchair users and over-55s.

It will include 34 social housing units across a mix of two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments.

The Fountain Hill scheme at Stiles Way in the town, which is expected to be completed and handed over by the end of 2024, has been launched by Choice Group in partnership with the Department for Communities (DfC) and the Housing Executive under its ‘Housing for All’ programme.

Choice Group chief executive Michael McDonnell said: “This investment further demonstrates our commitment to offering quality affordable homes while supporting the local communities that we develop in.

“It follows previous investment of £7.2m from Choice across the council area over the last five years with plans for further investment over the next five.

“Choice is determined to create and sustain diverse, integrated and ultimately more stable and thriving neighbourhoods, grounded in mutual respect.”

Colum Boyle, permanent secretary at the Department for Communities, said: “Increasing the supply of social housing is a priority for the department. Work is ongoing with housing associations to facilitate the delivery of quality homes which reflect the vision and future of social housing in Northern Ireland.

“The shared housing programme aims to improve choice and remove barriers to accessing quality homes. This new development in Antrim makes an important contribution to this, and we are pleased to be partnering with Choice on the project.”

Choice provides a mix of supported, sheltered and general needs housing across the north, providing more than 12,000 homes. It currently operates five shared housing developments in Dungannon, Ballynahinch, Saintfield, Ballymena and Lisburn.
