Engineering firm secures planning approval for new Portadown factory

A PORTADOWN engineering firm has secured planning permission to develop a new factory in Co Armagh.

Dawson Manufacturing & Engineering anticipate the new facility will create up to 25 new jobs and represent an investment of up to £10 million.

The company, which specialise in bespoke stainless steel products, was originally set up in Clonmore during 2006 by brothers Colin and Ian Dawson.

The growth of the engineering firm prompted a relocation to Portadown in 2009.

Now employing around 40 people, Dawson M&E operate across various sectors, including healthcare, food, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, conveyor and packaging systems and architecture.

The but the company says it needs a new state-of-the-art factory to enable further growth and facilitate the development of new products.

The firm envisages it will help create another 20 to 25 jobs, as part of an investment of between £8m and £10m.

Alongside a new manufacturing and engineering factory, the plans, approved by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council in recent days, include a new office black and canteen.

The new facility is set to be built within Invest NI’s Charlestown Road industrial estate, on a four-acre site next to the AJ Power complex.

A report produced by council planning officials said it “will have clear positive economic impact for the borough”.
