A BELFAST company specialising in net zero technologies has been selected as the only firm from the north to be included in a UK Government-backed business growth programme.

Catagen, which is based in the Titanic Quarter, is among the 32 climate technology firms to make it through to Tech Nation Net Zero 2.0.

The programme is billed as the first government-backed growth programme designed to support the most promising climate tech companies to accelerate the UK’s and the world’s path to net zero.

A panel of 40 specialists judged companies based on their scalability and potential to help the UK reach its net zero goal.

Catagen emerged out of Dr Andrew Woods’ PhD research at Queen's University to help the automotive industry reduce tailpipe emissions from vehicles.

Its energy efficient patented technology has displaced more than 1,100 tonnes of carbon from the automotive sector since 2017.

Catagen is now working on disruptive technologies in hydrogen, e-fuels and world leading emissions data.

Dr Woods said: “We have the opportunity to create world leading net zero technologies that provide alternatives to fossil fuels and drive behaviour change to reduce emissions.

“Climate change will impact us all and our goal at Catagen is to clean and decarbonise the air. This opportunity will create impact and take us to the next level.”
