MOTHERCARE’S two remaining stores in the north are set to close by this weekend.
The mother and baby retailer’s 79 UK outlets are set to shut by Sunday with the loss of around 2,500 jobs. It follows the collapse of the retail chain in November.
Mothercare’s stores here include outlets in Newry and at Sprucefield. The Belfast city centre shop closed in 2017, with branches in Derry, Bangor and Newtownabbey following suit.
It becomes the latest retail brand to join the list of high street casualties. The company posted a £37m loss in the last financial year, with a series of store closures unable to prevent the retailer's eventual collapse.
