A new 180-seat Italian restaurant is to open in Belfast's Victoria Square this weekend following a £600,000 investment.

Tony Macaroni, a Scottish family-run restaurant group, will open its premises on Saturday with the creation of 30 jobs.

The distinctive new venue includes art-deco furnishings and a large indoor tree.

Staff from Scotland will travel to train the new Belfast recruits.

The group also has a restaurant in Bangor, Co Down, which opened in March last year.

The new restaurant will be launched with a 'VIP evening' on Friday.

Sep Marini, managing director of Tony Macaroni, said: "We had a very warm welcome from the Northern Irish community when we opened up in Bangor, so we are extremely excited about our new restaurant in

Belfast."

"We have a great location in Victoria Square, in the vibrant city centre," he said.

"At its heart, Tony Macaroni is a family-run business and we have a reputation for serving great quality, real Italian food at affordable prices."

Tony Macaroni, which is part of the Viva Italia Group, opened its first restaurant in East Kilbride, in Scotland, in 2007.

The group now runs 19 restaurants which employ 700 people across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
