Newry Chamber formally launches annual business awards initiative

ENTRIES have opened for the 2019 Greater Newry Area Business Awards, which will take place in the city's Canal Court Hotel on Thursday June 27.

Organised by the Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade, this year’s principal sponsors are Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Shelbourne Motors.

Chamber president Paul Convery said: “The awards have grown to become the highlight of the Newry business calendar. And with 26 categories and 27 individual awards, this year's initiative will be the biggest ever.”

He added: “The Greater Newry Area is recognised as being synonymous with entrepreneurship, innovation excellent service, product quality and customer care. The awards are designed to recognise and reward the best this region’s business community has to offer.”

Councillor Mark Murnin said: “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is delighted to be a principal sponsor. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the innovative, successful and high performing businesses located right across our district. The awards will offer recognition to a range of sectors and business approaches, which all contribute to driving forward growth and investment.”

Shelbourne Motors' financial director Caroline Willis added: “As a family run business established over 45 years ago, we pride ourselves in offering exceptional customer service. We are renowned for building relationships with customers and businesses, and we are looking forward to growing that within the Greater Newry area.

“Shelbourne Motors will officially open a new £5 million multi-franchise facility in Newry later this year and strengthen our position as one of Northern Ireland’s largest family-owned vehicle retailers.

"It is a significant investment in the area that will create up to 60 jobs. It will include new Renault and Kia car showrooms, used car supermarket, car handover bays, lounge-style waiting area with café and a service centre.”
