PLANS have been submitted for a new £12 million apartment complex on Belfast's Lisburn Road.

The proposed development, which includes a mix of 80 apartments, six retail units, communal court yards, a gym and car parking, is being brought forward by Galgorm Properties.

A planning application for 721-739 Lisburn Road was submitted to Belfast City Council this week, with the developer estimating up to 50 jobs could be created during construction.

If the major development is given the green light it could spell the end for several existing tenants at the site, including women's fashion boutique Max Mara, café Tony & Jen's, financial advisors Marlborough Place and car servicing and repair company, Kwik Fit.

All of the businesses have been kept informed about the project and according to the developer some tenants will remain, with others moving on, depending on their requirements.

The proposed ‘Bellingham Place’ scheme, designed by Belfast-based Like Architects, features a mix of one, two and three bed apartments and has been designed to meet the requirements of the council's long-term plan to bring more residents into the city.

Michael Martin, director of Like Architects said the plans will create a high quality residential scheme on the Lisburn Road.

"This will deliver much needed homes on one of Belfast’s main arterial routes as well as retail units on the ground floor with recessed areas which can be utilised as outdoor seating / activity space on the ground floor," Mr Martin said.

"We worked with the development team to carry out an extensive consultation process with the local community and elected representatives to fully inform them of our plans prior to submission of this application.”
