A DERRY-based jewellers has unveiled a new £500,000 expansion, which has transformed its premises.

Sproules Jewellers, founded in 1954, has just opened newly refurbished premises on Carlisle Road, with support from First Trust Bank.

The new 2,500 sq ft extension has seen Sproules create a unique diamond room, with two luxurious champagne bars overlooking the city, where customers can browse and select jewellery.

The new premises also feature a wedding ring boutique, an extended additional jewellery showroom, as well as watchmaker and goldsmith workshops specialising in repairs.

The major investment has seen staff numbers at the family-owned business rise by three from eight to 11.

Owner and managing director, Nigel Sproule believes the latest expansion will help the award-winning retailer remain at the forefront of the industry.

“Today’s retail market is evolving and to stay ahead of the curve we want to give our customers a memorable, personal experience," he said.

"We invest in getting to know our customers and providing them with a unique shopping experience they can’t find anywhere else. Our new luxurious diamond room and wedding ring boutique provides couples with a more quiet, intimate setting when selecting their rings."

In addition to the extended showroom, Sproules now places a greater emphasis on its online presence, which in turn led to a significant upturn in sales.

“We know that most ‘window shopping’ is now completed online and having a strong website and brand presence is vital to our customers. We have seen an explosive growth in our online sales in part helped through our social media platforms," Mr Sproule said.

Jennifer Doherty, business manager at First Trust Bank added:

“Nigel and the team at Sproules have been First Trust Bank customers for over two decades and we are delighted to help them continue to bring their vision for the business to life.

“Sproules offers customers more choice than ever with customers travelling from far and wide to avail of their unique collections. The team all possess exceptional customer service skills and it is great for the local area to see the number of staff employed by the business grow."

Sproules first opened on John Street in 1954, but later moved to its current location on Carlisle Road after the business outgrew its premises.

In 2010 the business bought the adjacent building as part of their long-term vision to become a bespoke jeweller.
