CO Down construction giant Graham Group has secured a new £113 million contract to deliver a 1,400 bed student accommodation project in England.

Graham has been selected as the main contractor for the work at the University of York as part of an ambitious ‘Campus Masterplan’.

The construction firm will complete the first phase residential expansion of the Heslington East Campus, which will see the development of high-specification student living and communal space. As well as working on the major project, Graham is also an investor as part of a consortium with Equitix – a fund manager of core infrastructure assets.

The initial development is scheduled to commence in January, with completion expected to take two years.

Graham Group executive chairman, Michael Graham hailed the contract as "another fantastic win" for the company, which builds on a strong pipeline of projects in the region following the opening of its Leeds office last year.

“We are committed to providing outstanding student accommodation and the 1,400 units delivered across the first phase of this project will bring our total output in the sector to more than 10,000 in the past five years," he said.

“We look forward to developing this fantastic scheme and the positive impact it will have on the local community, creating opportunities for work and engagement with local businesses as we construct a high-class development that reflects York’s strong heritage.”

News of the new contract comes just a week after the company posted a record-busting set of accounts.

The privately-owned firm’s revenues jumped by 36 per cent to £767.6m in the year to March, with growth across all divisions.
