PLANS have been submitted for a new trampoline park in west Belfast, which could create 20 jobs.

Two vacant retail units in Westwood Shopping Centre in Kennedy Way are the subject of the proposed new development, which would further add to the centre's offering for visitors.

The planning application has been submitted by centre owners Johncorp (No.3) Limited, which has well-known Belfast property developer Kevin McKay listed as the sole company director. Johncorp has led the recent redevelopment at the centre, which earlier this year announced it was operating at maximum capacity. The redevelopment has seen Asda and B&M retained as key tenants with both increasing the size of their units, with a number of new retailers adding to the line-up.

Speaking back in February, Mr McKay said:

“We took a strategic decision a couple of years ago to totally transform this centre by demolishing the original shopping mall and replacing it with large retail warehouse units. Our confidence in the new retail format prompted us to start the scheme on a speculative basis and that decision has been fully vindicated with the scheme now fully let.”

The new development plans include the amalgamation of two retail units and change of use to an indoor trampoline park, the creation of a new mezzanine floor and minor elevational changes. If the plans are approved it would create a 2,032 sq m indoor activity centre, which according to the application, would create 20 jobs.

The new trampoline park would become the city's second after We Are Vertigo, which opened at Newtownbreda Industrial Estate back in 2013.

Earlier this year the adventure centre also opened Ireland’s first indoor skydiving centre in Belfast, creating 20 jobs.

The £1.5 million facility is the first and only indoor skydiving simulator on the island of Ireland and is housed within the former T13 building in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.
