SSE’s latest wind farm development, Slieve Divena II in Co Tyrone, is now fully operational, generating enough green energy to power 16,500 homes in Northern Ireland.

The Ballygawley windfarm produces 18.8MW of renewable energy, with its eight turbines to helpoffset approximately 24,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year from fossil fuel generation.

This is the second wind farm site SSE has completed in Northern Ireland this year, following the completion of the 34.5MW Tievenameenta Wind Farm in nearby Killeter in February. SSE’s operational wind farm portfolio in the north now produces over 141MW, making it the leading renewable energy generator.

SSE’s Project Manager for Slieve Divena II, Pat Tierney, said:

"Alongside the positive environmental impacts, the construction of the wind farm has brought economic benefit to the local area, through jobs and supply chain opportunities."

"The construction saw 1,150 workers log 149,500 working hours, with no accidents or lost time injuries, a remarkable achievement on a project of this scale."
