JUST months after opening their second gym in the city, GymCo, owned by Belfast-based JDM Group, are already making further plans for expansion.

Two years ago GymCo opened its first facility within the Devenish Complex, which JDM also owns. It is already the largest independent gym in Northern Ireland.

In October, the company opened its second premises at Cityside retail park in the former premises of the Arena fitness centre. The new premises is unrecognisable to Arena's former set up - boasting three state of the art class studios, a resistance and cardio area and the largest functional training rig in Belfast.

'Generation' a protein, smoothie and coffee bar is also located within the premises and a state of the art spa including a jacuzzi, steamroom and sauna with iconic views of the city are also due to open in the coming months.

The new facility has created 20 jobs for the area, bringing the total staff figure for both gyms up to 40.

JDM already operate the Chip Co, Pizza Co and Jack Harley’s foot spots in the north, alongside the Whitefort bar and restaurant in west Belfast.

Brands under the JDM banner are not just confined to Northern Ireland, however, with the exclusive Light nightclub in Glasgow also being run by the group. In total, the JDM run a total of eight brands with 13 locations in the UK.

JDM’s Devenish Complex in Finaghy was the talk of the city in early December when worldwide sports superstar Conor McGregor made a meet-and-greet appearance to a packed crowd in the premises’ Grand Ballroom.

In the near future GymCo have said they will be opening further locations in the city and further afield.

JDM is owned by two brothers, David and Jim Conlon, Director Jim Conlon, said they were excited to have opened their second venue in Belfast and are looking ahead.

"With this gym we have strived to further develop the gym experience we have created at our sister venue GymCo at finaghy," he said.

"Cityside is a a very vibrant and busy Retail Park and we are delighted to open GymCo to compliment the existing businesses which are there already.

"The plans for JDM as a group are to focus on the businesses we currently have and to continue to develop each of them and see what possible opportunities may arise in the future."

Yesterday, GymCo also announced it was entering into a new partnership with the north's largest private healthcare provider, the 3fivetwo Group.

The tie-up means new customers as well as those signed up as members to GymCo can now receive special rates and discounts off treatments at 3fivetwo such as health screenings and eye tests, along with access to specialist consultants.
