COMMUNICATIONS firm Connect Telecom is to create 10 jobs in the Derry area over the next two years.

The company provides business to business mobile and unified communications and is spending £250,000 on establishing a permanent presence in the north-west.

Having doubled its customer base in the area within the last 12 months, Connect Telecom now wants plans to open a local office in 2017 .

The firm has grown by more than 50 per cent since being acquired by telecoms entrepreneur Scott Ritchie last November and now has 5,000 customers across Britain and Ireland.

“As Northern Ireland’s only Vodafone Platinum Partner, we pride ourselves on providing our Vodafone customers with the best customer service and a single point of contact right here in Northern Ireland," said Mr Ritchie.

“With a significant proportion of our growth in the north west, we are keen to establish a permanent base here to service both existing and new clients for whom we provide fixed phone lines and mobiles, broadband, email, data storage and other IT solutions.

“Our investment in the area is underpinned by the success of businesses in the north-west area who we will look to support in the coming years and our desire to be the sole provider of all communications requirements for businesses of all sizes and from all sectors.”

Earlier this year Connect Telecom, which will celebrate 10 years in business in 2017, became one of the first Vodafone partners in the UK authorised to install One Net Business, and the first in Northern Ireland.

George Fleming, vice-president of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce added: “As the largest business network in the region, we support the development and growth of the business community of the north-west.

“We are delighted Connect Telecom will be opening an office in the region in the new year to further support the growth and development of local businesses.”
