DROMORE manufacturer UPU Industries has won a major contract with global packaging specialist NNZ.

The company is best known for its Farmer’s branded range of agricultural wrapping solutions.

And now its Reflectornet stretch pallet netting will be used across the fresh food and perishable goods sector in South Africa.

The product was developed by UPU to provide an efficient and cost effective alternative to the standard plastic pallet wrapping used to transport fresh or perishable goods.

The first container of the innovative product has been dispatched to South Africa where it will primarily be used by food co-operatives and wholesalers.

It follows a recent expansion by UPU of its production facilities from which it already exports to around 25 countries.

It has been supplying its products to NNZ, a multinational company which specialises in packaging for agricultural and industrial markets, over the last five years – primarily in the Dutch/Benelux market.

UPU's international sales director Gary Millar said: "As a major global producer and exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables, South Africa offers us an exciting new market opportunity, hence we welcome this new business extension with our valued customer NNZ.

"Reflectornet offers distributors of fresh produce a more efficient means of securing and protecting goods for transport, reducing condensation while allowing them to breathe. As another key benefit is a significant reduction in waste, demand for Reflectornet has been increasing steadily since we launched it in 2013."

Jan Zwier from NNZ added: “We’ve been dealing with UPU Industries for a number of years now and have confidence in the quality, reliability and consistency of their products. Reflectornet is an excellent addition to our extensive portfolio of packaging solutions, and is perfectly suited to the South African market. We look forward to further developing our relationship with UPU in the years ahead.”
