INDUSTRIAL covers manufacturers, Cunningham Covers of Maghera has capitalised on recent export success with the creation of 10 new jobs in management, sales and production.

The new posts, which have been made possible due to new product development and a recent £700,000 contract in Britain, will be filled over the next two years and bring the total payroll at the company to 62.

They will also contribute around £200,000 a year to the local economy, according to enterprise minister Jonathan Bell.

"Cunningham Covers is a market leader in the design and manufacture of custom industrial textile covers for the protection of high value assets," he said, "and 70 per cent of the protective covers produced by the business are sold to over 40 countries.

"The company has invested significantly in the last year in product development and marketing to ensure it remains at the forefront of its field and can continue to grow and reach new markets worldwide."

Managing director David Cunningham said company strategy was to target high growth markets and exports sales sectors - "which is why we continue to develop and research our clever, protective covers which can be used in a variety of industries."

The firm was founded by Gordon Cunningham in 1969 after he spotted a need to provide covers for an agricultural trailer manufacturer - and having carved out a niche in the local farming industry he went on to became one of the first manufacturers of curtainsides, now a permanent feature of heavy goods vehicles around the world.

Today the company makes quality covers for the transport, oil and gas and manufacturing sectors as well as custom-made canopies for garden gazebos and pergolas.
