ONE of the north coast's most popular entertainment venues is creating 35 new jobs with the launch of its new-look 120-seat bar and bistro at Kelly's Complex outside Portrush.

The opening of DeerStalker Bar and Bistro marks the end of a major redevelopment project for local hotelier Peter Wilson who refurbished the adjacent Golf Links Hotel at the same time.

Announcing completion of the work yesterday, Mr Wilson said the new jobs would be a mix of full-time and part-time posts, while the interior design of the 6,500 square foot bar paid due homage to the original DeerStalker pub.

Co Down designer Drew Henry was tasked with the project which took over 12 weeks to complete and incorporates a range of bespoke features for locals, tourists and golfers.

"Staying true to the heritage of the original Deerstalker bar which was founded by my uncle in 1972, I wanted to create a comfortably traditional bar with a countryside-inspired feel, while introducing some new and updated features," Mr Wilson said.

"The new bar will offer guests a relaxed space for enjoying a drink and traditional pub-grub snacks, as well as streaming live sport. The refurbishment of the complex's existing bars and hotel allows us to continue to provide the highest level of hospitality and entertainment."

The family-owned complex, which attracts thousands of party-goers each year, currently employs more than 120 full-time and part-time staff across the main hotel, three bars, nightclub and caravan park.
