THE Belfast Maritime Festival returns this weekend, bringing free live music to the banks of the River Lagan.

Saturday and Sunday will see over 100 musicians performing at outdoor venues along the 'Maritime Mile' - which runs from Queen’s Quay to HMS Caroline near the Titanic Museum - during the Belfast City Council-run event.

Performers include NI Music Prize winners Joshua Burnside, Winnie Ama, Sasha Samara and Roe, Duke Special celebrating 21 years of his first album, soul band Manukahunney, folk favourites The Rapparees, the 30-piece Downshire Brass band, and Northern Ireland Opera performing classical works.

The Belfast Maritime Festival will also welcome a flotilla of vessels and ships to Queen's Quay and Belfast Harbour Marina, plus free events like photography exhibitions, Science Street, the Belfast Bazaar and a Kids’ Zone.

Maritime Belfast Trust,  the charity that preserves and promotes Belfast’s rich maritime heritage, has been working with local waterfront neighbourhoods on a large-scale photographic exhibition.

Back to the River - Maritime Mile Through my Lens is located on Hamilton Dock and showcases photographs taken by the local community on Belfast’s historic waterfront, capturing what local residents love about the waterfront and what makes them feel connected to the area.

Kerrie Sweeney, CEO of Maritime Belfast Trust said: “We have worked with Belfast Exposed and more than 50 people from the local community groups including LORAG, EastSide and Sailortown, as well as local businesses along the Maritime Mile."

The festival also offers the chance to see one of the last remaining SS Nomadic Lifeboats which will be on display beside SS Nomadic over the weekend.Festival-goers can also visit the historic Drawing Offices and heritage rooms at Titanic Hotel Belfast and explore St Joseph’s Church, Belfast Harbour Commissioners Offices and Sinclair Seaman’s Church.To mark the weekend, Titanic Belfast, SS Nomadic, SoundYard, the Great Light and Belfast City Hall will all be lighting up blue.See visitbelfast.com for full details of the Belfast Maritime Festival.
