THE first of the Open House Festival's Picnic in the Park concerts will take place in Bangor this Sunday.

Tribute band Jam Pact will be playing all your favourites by The Jam to open the festival's summer season of nine live shows at Ward Park.

The free music events will run every Sunday throughout July and August, culminating with the Bluegrass Picnic on Sunday August 27 - a staple of the Open House Festival programme since its first year in 2013 - which will be headlined by Los Angeles-based bluegrass band Water Tower.

“If the sun is shining, we can expect up to 5,000 people to attend," says Open House director, Kieran Gilmore of the Picnic in the Park concert series.

"But they are lovely events, with a great atmosphere, and the audiences are always respectful of each other and of their surroundings.”

The concerts start at 3pm and end at 5pm. Anyone attending can bring a picnic, plus their own chairs and blankets - and a bin bag to take their rubbish home.
