Angel Olsen will return to Belfast next year

HAVING slayed the Belfast crowd with a packed-out show at McHugh's basement a couple of years ago, Angel Olsen will finally return to the north next year.

Presumably, the US singer-songwriter will still be touring her current record My Woman at that point – an album which sees her expanding her musical palette beyond the lo-fi folk and garage band stylings of her first couple of releases with producer Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira, Santigold) at the controls.

While Olsen's wistful lyrics and croonsome, country singer-esque vocals are still her trademark, she's pushing herself in different directions on My Woman, which includes tunes as diverse as the spacey, synthpop ballad Intern, Shut Up Kiss Me's slightly unhinged indie guitar swing and Not Gonna Kill You's psychedelic, Jefferson Airplane-esque folk rock out.

Having proved herself to be a magnetic, surprisingly funny stage presence last time around and now equipped with another varied full-length to cherry-pick from, her return to Belfast on a slightly bigger stage is not to be missed.
