ONE of the most talked about new TV programmes of last year before it 'aired' on Netflix, Narcos received mixed but generally positive reviews from critics and viewers alike.

Everyone agreed that Wagner Moura made a fantastic Pablo Escobar in this series charting the rise and fall of the world's most notorious drug lord – most were less keen on Boyd Holbrook's DEA agent assigned to help bring down the Escobar empire.

Happily, while series one smothered 15 years' worth of storyline in agent Steve Murphy's witlessly expositional voice-over, the new run of Narcos (overseen by new showrunner Jose 'Elite Force' Padilha) cuts it right back while positioning Escobar front and centre as his reign approaches its lethal denouement on December 2 1993.

We are also privy to more of the morally murky dealings that Murphy and his partner Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) were prepared to embrace in order to force their man into a corner.

Well worth another look, even if you drifted away midway through last season.
