THE women of Wentworth are back for the fourth series of the excellent Aussie jailbird drama.

It's all change following last year's fiery finale, which saw gruesome governor Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) rescued from a prison blaze to be sent down for all manner of homicidally inclined activities.

Number two screw Vera Bennett (Kate Atkinson) is now running the refurbished Wentworth, but her newly instated programme of educational and recreational inmate activities is immediately put under threat by a brewing confrontation between top dog lag Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) and her nemesis Kaz Proctor (Tammy Macintosh) – not to mention the need to furtively induct a new remand prisoner.

Meanwhile, the recently released Franky Doyle (Nicole da Silva) is shacked up with her prison psychologist lover Bridget Westfall (Libby Tanner). How long can their parole-violating pairing endure?

A welcome return for the best prison drama on telly.
