The Cult have announced a gig in Belfast next year

VETERAN rockers The Cult will return next year with a new album and tour, including a Belfast date.

Ian Astbury and co are set to release their Hidden City LP in February before hitting the road in Britain and Ireland. The follow-up to 2012's Choice Of Weapon, the Bob Rock-produced Hidden City features their recent single Dark Energy.

The long-running group's 10th LP is described as the final part of a trilogy that began with Born Into This in 2007.

"I find today's gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it's a new phenomenon," explains Astbury of the inspirations behind the new album, in typically baffling style.

"My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart."

Well indeed.

The Cult have just returned from an American tour with Primal Scream where they are still basking in the success of an acclaimed appearance at last year's Coachella Festival.

The seven date US jaunt found the band breaking in a new band member, following the departure of bassman Chris Wyse.

Guitarist Billy Duffy told Teamrock.com: "I had a great time getting back on the road after so much time this year in the studio.

"The first couple of days were in Austin starting off with The Cult show at Stubb's which was fun and the debut of new bass player Grant Fitzpatrick."
