Kathryn Williams and Michele Stodart, tonight, The Black Box, Belfast.

LIVERPOOL'S Kathryn Williams began her career in 1999 with the release of Dog Leap Stairs, a set of low-key folk songs that drew comparisons to the hushed musings of Nick Drake.

Williams's second album, 2000's Little Black Numbers, was nominated for the Mercury Prize, gaining her a much larger audience which she has continued to grow over the past 15 years.

Having previously collaborated with the likes of Bert Jansch, John Martyn and Bombay Bicycle Club, Williams released her 11th album, Hypoxia this year – an ambitious set of songs inspired by Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar.

She is joined on tonight's bill by Michele Stodart, best known as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter with The Magic Numbers.

In 2012 Trinidad and Tobago-born Stodart released an album of her own songs, Wide-Eyed Crossing, a southern-flavoured expedition into Americana, before going on tour with the likes of Villagers, Duke Special, Slow Club and Ben Ottewell of Gomez.

When not touring with The Magic Numbers (who recently announced a 10th anniversary show at The Limelight on December 4) or playing solo shows like the one in Belfast tonight, Stodart is working on a follow-up solo album to be released later this year.
