Gig of the week: The Pharcyde at Aether & Echo

The Pharcyde 2015, AKA Bizarre Ride Live

The Pharcyde, tonight, Aether & Echo, Belfast

FANS of 'golden age' West Coast hip-hop will be in their element this evening as The Pharcyde perform their 1992 Bizarre Ride II LP live in Belfast. However, know that the peeps who brought you top tunes like Runnin', Passin' Me By and Ya Mama are no longer calling themselves The Pharcyde.

For legal reasons we probably don't want to be getting into – the original band imploded in the mid-90s – OG Pharcyders Slimkid3 and Fatlip have recruited album producers J-Swift and LA Jay under the moniker Bizarre Ride Live.

The LA-based quartet first came together in 2012 to craft a live show celebrating their much-loved debut album's 20th anniversary and deluxe reissue. In fact, Bizarre Ride Live performed it and other Pharcyde faves at Aether & Echo just over a year ago, when they went down a storm.

If you were too young to appreciate The Pharcyde's trippy, jazz-tinged, head-nodding tales first time around, or they just plain passed you by, this is the another chance to catch up with one of the big 'coulda-woulda-shouldas' of early 90s West Coast hip-hop.
