The mares’ chase at Clonmel on Thursday afternoon has only attracted five runners but it’s a fascinating little heat and Limerick Lace is fancied to make a winning return in the two-mile-two contest.

Gavin Cromwell’s charge enjoyed a fine novice season last term with two wins and a runner-up effort in Grade Three company at Naas.

She chased home a smart horse in Journey With Me that day in a two-and-a-half mile event in testing conditions and it was her best effort to date. The Walk In The Park mare was slightly disappointing on her final outing of the campaign but it was still a decent run to finish third to Instit in a competitive Listed mares’ chase at Punchestown.

She has a touch of class about here and over this trip the six-year-old is fancied to come out on top.

Hurricane Georgie is the obvious danger in the race but she is better suited by a good bit further than this.

Gordon Elliott’s charge does have race fitness on her side though and ran a cracker when chasing home Minella Indo at Punchestown a fortnight ago.

The ground will help bring her stamina in play but Limerick Lace may just have a few more gears.

Willie Mullins saddles Heia, who gets a nice chunk of weight from the top two, and she has to be respected if you can forgive her her last run.

She was reported to be showing signs of coming into season when well beaten in Listowel and is capable of better.

Mullins could make a good start to proceedings in the maiden hurdle.

The Electrical Kid is an interesting one in the opener where he makes his first start for the champion trainer.

He was runner-up on his sole outing in a point-to-point back in November 2021, when chasing home Inthepocket.

The winner has developed into a very smart novice hurdler for Henry de Bromhead since, winning the Grade One at Aintree in April.

In the following mares’ contest Mullins may also be able to collect with Mount Sinai.

The daughter of Mount Nelson has been placed on both her outings in bumpers and is sure to be well schooled for her jumping bow.

She faces a couple of well exposed rivals and it looks like a nice opportunity for her to make a winning start over timber.
