MANAGER AND KEY MAN
MALACHY O’ROURKE
Reaching Ulster Finals quickly became almost an expectation, not a rare treat, for Monaghan under O’Rourke, and after narrowly missing out last year the Farneymen will be favourites to emerge from their side of the draw.
Although he will target a third Ulster title in his fifth year as boss, O’Rourke will also be desperate to lead Monaghan into the last four of the All-Ireland series for the first time since 1988.
JACK MCCARRON
For years Conor McManus was the obvious pick for this category because he was Monaghan’s main source of scorers – which is why McCarron is the obvious pick this year.
The Currin clubman showed that he can offer serious scoring support to ‘Mansy’, notching 3-29 in five Division One outings, 3-12 of that from play.
And now he’s announced himself, after being plagued with injuries, he’ll have to be well-watched – which may give McManus a little more room to do damage…
