KILLEAVY topped Armagh’s ‘group of death’ and earned an automatic quarter-final place as Maghery, winners in 2016 and 2020, bowed out after a shock loss to Dromintee.

After an opening defeat to Ballymacnab, Maghery’s win over Killeavy last week re-ignited their prospects and a point against St Patrick’s would have taken them through in third. However, a 0-9 to 0-8 defeat ends their campaign, with Dromintee going through on the head-to-head ruling.

Killeavy also prevailed on head-to-head thanks to their 1-18 to 1-13 win over Ballymacnab, who go through in second place.

BURREN booked their place in the last eight of the Morgan Fuels Down SFC thanks to a 4-10 to 0-10 win over Loughinisland at Pairc Esler, while Castlewellan and Warrenpoint, losers in round one, prolonged their campaigns with wins over Bredagh and Bryansford respectively, who both exit the competition.

Warrenpoint made hard work of beating ’Ford, overturning a deficit in normal time before winning 6-5 on penalties. Castlewellan beat Bredagh by 1-8 to 0-8.

FIVE-IN-A-ROW chasing Antrim hurling kingpins Dunloy booked a semi-final slot with a 0-26 to 0-21 win over St John’s, who qualify in third place, with Rossa, 6-26 to 2-16 winners over Clooney Gaels on Friday, through in second spot.

IN the O’Neills Derry SFC, Steelstown lost their unbeaten record as Newbridge claimed a 2-8 to 1-9 victory to revive their own hopes of a top-four finish in Group A after a heavy defeat to Kilrea last time out.

In Group B, Slaughtneil put themselves in a good spot for a quarter-final place by beating The Loup 0-12 to 0-8.

ROUND three of the Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Donegal SFC saw wins for title contenders Naomi Conaill – 1-12 to 0-8 over Milford – and Kilcar – 1-17 to 1-10 against St Naul’s.

IN the only game in Cavan’s SFC on Saturday, last year’s beaten finalists Killygarry improved their record to three wins from three as they beat Ballinagh by 3-14 to 1-11.
