Prayers for Valerie Armstrong

There will be enormous concern over the circumstances of the death of mother of three Valerie Armstrong.

She died in the Royal Victoria Hospital  surrounded by her family last night.

Ms Armstrong was hit by a scrambler while walking her dog in Colin Glen forest park on the outskirts of west Belfast on Tuesday evening.

A full police investigation is under way, with a 17 year old boy due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today.

It is essential that the sequence of events leading to the accident is established without delay. However, it is clear that scrambler bikes have previously presented a threat to pedestrians both in Colin Glen forest park and elsewhere in the recent past and that the enforcement of regulations surrounding their use needs to be urgently reviewed.

The entire community will also be praying that Mrs Armstrong, whose children are all aged under 11, can make a full recovery after her ordeal.
