Punishment should fit crime in Tyrone school

When the vandals who wrecked offices in a Co Tyrone school with sledgehammers are brought to justice, as it must be expected will happen shortly, particular consideration should be given to the punishment they face.

Firstly, they should be ordered to return to Drumragh Integrated College in Omagh and repair all the damage they caused when they smashed their way into the building in search of a small amount of cash.

They should then be instructed to appear before the pupils who had their studies interrupted when they were sent home yesterday and offer a full and unreserved apology for their actions.

Only when these tasks are satisfactorily completed should the courts decide how long the perpetrators should serve in jail for their despicable crimes.
