A MEMBER of the GAA's Ulster Council has been remembered as a "selfless and tireless individual".

Marion Donnelly, one of two Monaghan delegates on the sporting and cultural body's provincial ruling council, died suddenly on Tuesday.

The mother-of-two and grandmother from Emyvale was a proud member of her local GAA club.

A statement posted on the Ulster GAA website noted how her passing had been met with "deep sadness and a huge sense of shock".

"Marion was a volunteer of distinction and was held in the highest esteem by all who had the privilege to come into contact with her," it said.

Ms Donnelly served as a member of the Ulster GAA finance committee before being elected as one of her home county's two representatives on the Ulster Council in December 2020. She was the current secretary of the Ulster GAA club planning and physical development committee and was also a member of the Ulster GAA hearings committee and the Ulster GAA scór committee. The dedicated Gael had served for more than a decade as treasurer of the Monaghan County Committee and previously served as both the county's assistant treasurer and assistant secretary.

She was a key player in the development of the Monaghan GAA Training Centre in Cloghan and treasurer of the Emyvale GAA Club.

"We are much poorer today without her," the statement said.

"A selfless and tireless individual, Marion was an outstanding GAA administrator who always put others before her."

Ms Donnelly's funeral will take place today, with her remains leaving sister Nuala’s residence on Mullan Road, Emyvale at 10.15am for an 11am funeral Mass at St.Patrick’s Church, Corracrin and burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
