IN HER outgoing address after 17 years on Monaghan county board, treasurer Marion Donnelly urged the county to invest further in upgrading their facilities at Cloghan.

In presenting her report, she highlighted the fact that the development of the Centre of Excellence at Cloghan, which she had overseen during her term in office, was now completely debt-free and she urged the incoming county committee to look at acquiring further property to extend the facilities there.

Donnelly also revealed that spending on the county teams had decreased by four per cent, down from €561,000 last year to €528,000 in 2016. The outgoing treasurer, who has served in that position for 12 years and was replaced by Eileen Keenan, pointed out that 75 per of that expenditure was on the county senior and U21 football teams. Some ninne per cent of the expenditure was on the county minor football team and 13 per cent of the budget was split between the county's hurling teams.

In a low-key affair, Pádraig Sherry also stepped down as chairman after three years, where he was replaced by Scotstown man Michael McMahon. Sherry confined his address to speaking of the mixed fortunes that Monaghan county teams enjoyed in 2016, but his report was mostly taken up with acknowledging the help and the support that he got from various officers, subcommittees and the clubs during his term in office.

There were only two elections on the night with Francis Ward challenging outgoing secretary Anita Finnegan for that position, which he won. The other contest was for the two positions on the Ulster Council with the incumbents, Brendan Casey and Sean McKenna, being returned after a vote.

The position of development officer will be filled early in the new year.
