A man in his 30s was injured in an assault in Co Derry police are treating as a sectarian.

Several men were involved in the attack in the Baranailt Road area of Claudy on Sunday night, the PSNI said.

The group reportedly shouted sectarian abuse before leaving the scene in a silver Seat Leon car. The man suffered minor injuries.

Sinn Fein Councillor Sean Fleming said he condemned the attack on the man.

"Police are treating this attack as a sectarian hate crime and I would urge anyone with information to bring it forward," Cllr Fleming said.

"There is no place for sectarianism anywhere in our society."
