A COMMUNITY group in north Belfast has handed out special coronavirus support packs and urged residents to remain on their guard despite the easing of restrictions.

Carrick Hill Residents Association has produced packs for older and young residents of the area thanks to a grant from the Housing Executive.

The packs for the elderly include toiletries and hand sanitiser, while young people have been provided with items including crayons, colouring books and balloons.

Community worker Frank Dempsey said people still need to remain cautious.

“We are a stage where we are getting on top of it and moving in the right direction,” he said.

“This is to ensure we don't let our guard down.

“The guard has to be kept up.

“Young kids can see school back on the horizon, we are trying to blend the kids back in again.”

Housing Executive North Belfast Area Manager Liam Gunn said; “Community groups have made incredible efforts to ensure the most vulnerable in our society have been assisted throughout the Covid-19 lockdown period.

“Our organisation provided £290,000 through our Covid-19 Response Fund to support these amazing activities and we commend them for their work."
