A VIGIL was held in north Belfast last night following the sudden death of a young woman.

Crowds of people gathered at St Vincent de Paul Church on the Ligoniel Road to pay tribute to Sophie Hamilton, who died on Friday.

Prayers were last night said for the young woman, who was from the Millview Court area of Ligoniel, and who has been described as an "absolutely beautiful girl".

Tributes have been paid on social media, with many family and friends describing their shock at her passing.

Her boyfriend Sean Quigley wrote that she was "my everything".

"Sophie I just don’t know what I’m gonna do without you, I really don’t, my heart is broken into a billion pieces and I just can’t pick them back up, nothing will ever be the same again," he said.

"We had our whole lives planned out, we even had our kids' names picked for when the lucky day came that we were gonna start our own wee family, we had planned this year to travel the world and do so many things."

Another tribute described her as an "absolutely beautiful girl", while another said she was a "stunning young lady".

Ligoniel Improvement Association also wrote that it had "been a great shock that we have learned of the death of young Sophie Hamilton".

"Our sincerest sympathy goes out to all of Sophie’s family and friends," it said.

Another post said: "A very dark cloud lingers over Ligoniel...My thoughts and prayers are with the Hamiltons and the complete family circle at this sad and heartbreaking time, rest easy Sophie."

Police said they are "investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a woman in the Ligoniel Road area of north Belfast".

A spokesman added that the death was "not being treated as suspicious".

Ms Hamilton's funeral is due to take place at St Vincent de Paul Parish on Wednesday at 10am followed by burial in Carnmoney Cemetery.

She is survived by parents Seamus and Elaine, siblings Courtney, Rhianna and Patrick and family circle.
