Derry man to go on trial on rioting and petrol bomb charges

A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a series of charges linked to rioting in the city last year.

John Paul Moore of Carleton Court in Derry appeared at a preliminary enquiry yesterday at the city's Magistrate's Court.

He was charged with riotous assembly on July 13 2018, five counts of possessing petrol bombs in suspicious circumstances on the same date and four charges of throwing petrol bombs.

Moore also faced a charge of criminal damage to a police vehicle on the same date. It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions.

Moore was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on June 13.
