THE funeral took place in Co Down yesterday of a teenage boy who was found dead at his home on Christmas Eve.

Family and friends of Conor Robb gathered at St Patrick's and St Joseph's Church in Ballykinlar for Requiem Mass for the 16-year-old.

The former pupil at St Malachy’s High School died in the Newcastle Road area of Castlewellan on Sunday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested but was released after police said they were no longer treating the death as suspicious following the results of a post-mortem.

Parish priest Fr Robert Fleck said yesterday "I believe God (will) look at what was good in his life" and reward him accordingly as a merciful Father.

"His grandmother told me the other evening in the house that he had told her he loved her and was glad to be her grandson. It is not easy to share their emotions, a young 16-year-old, it is the beginning of manhood. Who knows how good he may have turned out."

The teenager was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

He is survived by his mother Suzanne and siblings Danny, Josephine and Lauren.
