Two teenagers were being questioned last night following the sudden death of a 15-year-old girl in Co Armagh.

Caitlin White was reported unconscious on Saturday evening in woodland in the Corcrain area of Portadown, where she had been with friends.

She died a short time later in hospital and police confirmed a possible link to drugs is one line of inquiry into her death. A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested yesterday.

Speaking to The Irish News yesterday, Caitlin’s aunt, Claire White, paid tribute to her "beautiful" niece.

"She was just a great wee girl, one of those people who lit up every room she went in to," she said.

"Whenever you would see her she was bubbly and cheerful, she always had a smile on her face.

"She was a beautiful girl inside and out. Caitlin would talk to anyone, she was very popular and well liked – that was just her personality."

The teenager, who was also known as Caitlin Shortland, was a 4th year pupil at Craigavon Senior High School and would have been sitting her GCSEs this time next year.

She had been living in the Portadown area for around two years after growing up in Newry.

Ms White said she was particularly interested in creative subjects and excelled in art.

"She loved art. Caitlin and her art teacher were more like friends than anything. It's something she has always excelled in," she said.

"In fact, she had just started a new art piece last week and she was so proud of it. Now I think the school are going to send it to her mummy, so she can have it to remember Caitlin by."

Ms White told how the schoolgirl's mother, Teresa, had been left devastated by her death.

"Her mother is just in shock; she’s been torn apart and she can’t even speak," she said.

"[Teresa’s] whole world has just been turned upside down – her and Caitlin we just so close. They were the absolute double of one another. I don't know what she's going to do without her.

"Caitlin was her mother's whole world, all they had was each other. Everyone will miss her dreadfully."

Since Saturday the woodland area of Corcrain has been visited by crowds of young people, laying flowers and leaving messages of condolence.

Caitlin White’s body is expected to be released to her family today ahead of her funeral in Newry tomorrow.
