NO date has yet been set for the re-opening of a pedestrian bridge along the Lagan Towpath in south Belfast.

The structure at Lagan Meadows was shut at the start of December.

In a post on social media at the time, Belfast City Council said the bridge was "currently closed for essential repairs".

It also said that diversions were "in place if you're out walking or cycling just now to access both sides of the river".

However, no date has yet been set for the bridge to be re-opened with the council currently "seeking quotations" for the repairs.

A council spokeswoman last night said: "Following inspection by a structural engineer, Belfast City Council took the decision to close the Brown Bridge from early December.

"The council is currently seeking quotations to repair the structure and will notify residents of the bridge’s reopening on its website and social media."
