THREE men arrested after a man lost part of his ear in an attack in Co Antrim have been released pending further inquiries.

A man was taken to hospital after part of his ear was severed in an attack on Broughshane Street in Ballymena at around 12.30am on Monday.

A second man suffered injuries to his ankle but did not need hospital treatment.

Around 45 minutes later, the windows of three cars were smashed on Warden Street and the front door of a property in Tower Court was damaged.

Police said one of the attackers was carrying a hammer or a hatchet.

Two men aged 20 and a 21-year-old man were arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.

The three were later released.

Police have appealed for information.
