A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested about the armed robbery of scratch cards from two shops in Co Antrim.

At around 9.50pm on Wednesday, a man with a gun threatened a female shop assistant at a business on Grove Road in Ballymena.

When the woman locked herself into the storeroom, the robber tried to open the till before stealing some scratch cards.

Shortly after 11pm on the same night, a man armed with a gun threatened a worker at a shop on Broughshane Street in the town and stole scratch cards.

The 33-year-old was arrested in Ballymena early yesterday morning and remained in custody last night.

Police have appealed for information.
