A 36-YEAR-OLD woman arrested by detectives investigating the murder of David Clarke in 2001 has been released unconditionally.

Mr Clarke (26), who had learning difficulties, was beaten to death in his flat at Forthriver Road in north Belfast on June 6 2001.

The woman was arrested in north Belfast on Wednesday morning and taken to a police station in Belfast for questioning.

She was later released.

Police re-opened an investigation into the murder of Mr Clarke last month after detectives received new information.

At the time, police said Mr Clarke's killing was one of the most savage and brutal they had ever dealt with.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Dickson said: "I would continue to ask anyone with information to do the right thing and come forward with anything they know".
