SPORTSWEAR brand Under Armour has signed up for its first standalone store in Northern Ireland.

The retailer is due to open a new unit at The Boulevard retail park in Banbridge in November.

It’s just the second outlet on the island of Ireland for Under Armour, which currently operates from Kildare Village.

The sportswear brand said the new 2,589 sq ft unit in Co Down is tied to its growth plans across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

It’s the latest sporting brand to open a standalone store at The Boulevard, joining the likes of Nike, Adidas and Asics.

The Boulevard is owned by the Lotus Group, which also owns The Junction in Antrim.

The site’s retail director, Chris Nelmes said: “Year on year The Boulevard is consistently outperforming its own record-breaking sales figures and is shooting up the league tables against its counterparts across the UK and Ireland. We are excited to welcome Under Armour on board.

“The sports and fitness categories have consistently performed well at The Boulevard.

“It’s something our shoppers want and the arrival of Under Armour will really strengthen our offering.”

Founded in 1996 with just a single shirt, Under Armour has grown into a global sportswear brand, with high profile sponsor partnerships with major sporting and entertainment figures.
