AN injury time Kenny Kane goal gave Portadown a massive boost in the hunt for promotion from the Playr-Fit Championship on Friday night.

The Ports - chasing an immediate return to the top flight - edged out fellow title chasers Bangor 2-1 at Shamrock Park to move into second place ahead of the Seasiders, just a point behind leaders Dundela.

Eamon Fyfe had given Niall Currie’s men a 1-0 half-time lead. David Hume equalised after the break before that late, late Kane winner.

The Duns, who take on Newington at Larne’s Inver Park on Saturday, will not be promoted as Wilgar Park is too narrow to pass Sports Direct Premiership rules and the club have said they will not groundshare.

A Portadown title win would mean automatic promotion, beyond that would be down to the play-offs.

RESULT

Portadown 2 Bangor 1
