Nottingham Forest were onto their third head coach at this point last season and after Friday’s stalemate at Ipswich you could forgive Oliver Glasner for fearing the worst, but his position should be safe.
Forest, just like after eight Premier League fixtures of the 2025-26 campaign, have only one win in eight in the division this season.
That accounted for Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou before the clocks went back last year, but it would be self-sabotage of the highest order if Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was to cut short Glasner’s tenure this early.
Glasner must wonder how Forest walked away from another match with a paltry points total after they produced an XG (expected goals) tally of 2.31 at Portman Road, had two efforts cleared off the line, scored a superb opener through Neco Williams and fashioned countless other opportunities.

With more care in front of goal, Liam Delap early on and Dan Ndoye and Callum Hudson-Odoi late in this 1-1 draw, Forest would have left Suffolk with three points.
Instead, Glasner has encountered another mixed opening to a season, but Forest’s opener perfectly encapsulated how good the football of the Austrian can be when it all clicks with one wing-back crossing to another to score.
Given Glasner endured a very slow start at Palace in a 2024-25 campaign that ended with FA Cup glory, Forest and Marinakis would be wise to hold their nerve, focus on the eye test and let their trophy-winning boss continue to work – history shows it usually pays off.
