Millwall progressed in the EFL Cup with a 1-0 win at Cambridge, the side coached by Lions favourite Neil Harris.

Harris scored 138 times as a player for Millwall, making him their all-time leading scorer, and his second spell as their coach only ended last season.

Millwall made a fast start, with Lyndon Dykes curling in an early effort which crashed back off the bar.

Jake Eastwood then made a good save from Luke Cundle, before the Lions did go ahead in the 10th minute. Danny Batth hit the bar following a corner, before the rebound was turned home by Jake Cooper.

Chances were scarce for the remainder of the first half, Max Crocombe catching a firm Sullay Kaikai cross that could have flown in.

Cambridge had to wait until the 52nd minute before forcing Crocombe into a simple stop from Glenn McConnell following Isaac Heath’s centre.

McConnell was played in on goal by Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu midway through the second half but could only drag his effort well wide across goal.

Millwall did not have a shot for 74 minutes after Cooper’s goal but that strike proved enough to settle the third EFL Cup meeting between the sides in six seasons.
