McCurry's 13-point haul unlucky for Moy as Edendork triumph in Tyrone league play-off

MOY have been relegated to Division Two of the Tyrone League, but they went down fighting in an epic play-off, losing out to Edendork by 0-21 to 0-20 after extra-time.

Darren McCurry’s 13 points haul did the trick for the St Malachy’s as they edged out the Tir na nOgs at Donaghmore to regain senior status after just one season in Division Two.

The prolific Michael Conroy contributed 14 scores to Moy’s attempt to salvage their place in the top tier, but his side fell just short in a heart-stopping encounter which swung back and forth in thrilling fashion.

It was McCurry who rescued Edendork with an equalising point deep into stoppage time at the end of normal time, before nailing the scores that secured promotion for his club.

He fired over four in the opening half, with Conn Kilpatrick, Stephen Corr and Niall Morgan also on target as Edendork shaded the first half by 0-7 to 0-6, with Ronan O’Hanlon and Conroy raising flags for Moy.

Sean Cavanagh emerged from retirement to come in as a half-time substitute, and along with brother Colm, helped Moy to a two points lead, with Declan Conroy, Michael Conroy and goalkeeper Jamie Coleman hitting the target.

But Edendork stayed in contention through Harry Og Conlan and McCurry to tie it up at 0-15 each.

They were still deadlocked at 0-18 apiece midway through extra-time, and while Conroy regained the lead briefly for Moy, Edendork battled to the end, and it was teenager Ben Cullen who sent over the winner.

In the Division Two/Three promotion/relegation play-off, Clogher held on to their Intermediate status with a 1-17 to 2-7 win over Drumragh at Beragh.

First half goals from Benny Drumm and Mal McManus had the Sarsfields in front by 2-3 to 0-7 at half-time, but the Eire Ogs pushed on after the break, with Rory McCaughey punching home a goal and Marc McConnell sending over seven points as they denied their opponents a step up from the third tier.

The play-offs completed the Tyrone club season, and all promotion and relegation issues have now been completed and the composition of the 2023 League and Championship divisions confirmed.

Derrylaughan were automatically relegated from Division One, and joined later by Clonoe, who lost a play-off to Moy.

Promoted from Division Two are League winners Eglish and Intermediate champions Galbally, while the struggle at the other end of the table saw Eskra demoted automatically after finishing bottom, as well as Cookstown, as a result of their play-off defeat.

Their places in Intermediate football will be taken by League and Championship double winners Stewartstown and Division Three League runners-up Strabane.
