Morgan Fuels Down SFC: Saul 0-12 RGU Downpatrick 0-13

IT was nip-and-tuck all the way, but RGU Downpatrick saw off dogged Saul to win the Down senior championship opener in Darragh Cross. From the throw-in, there was little to separate the teams. Downpatrick led 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval and they were able to keep their noses in front and shade a competitive opener.

Meanwhile, in the Intermediate Championship, Newry Shamrocks romped home against out-gunned Aughlisnafin by 1-15 to 0-2 but was much closer between Annaclone and St John’s. Extra-time was needed after it finished 2-6 apiece at Mayobridge. Both sides managed three more points in the additional 20 minutes but it took penalties to separate them and St John’s won 5-3 in the shootout
